Word Problem Roulette
This strategy focuses on different methods to solve a single word problem. Students are put into groups of no ore than four students. The groups discuss among themselves different methods to solve the problem. Once the group decides on one method of solving it, they write a report detailing the steps they took to get their answer. They write the report silently with one person writing the first step then passing the paper to another member of the group to write the second step. The paper is passed continuously until the problem is completed. This strategy makes the students communicate, come to a solution, read the writing of their group members, and connect their thinking with other members of the group.
